Which Flic this page is about

"Flic" is a crowded name on the App Store. We found at least ten "Flic" and "Flick" apps on 2026-09-25, including Flick: Swipe Photo Cleaner by Vibe Labs (14 ratings), PicFlick (36 ratings) and Flick Clean (18 ratings). "Flic App" by Shortcut Labs belongs to a smart-button company and is not a photo cleaner at all.

This page compares Pixtide with the original: Flic: AI Photo & Video Cleaner by Lifehack Labs, LLC, App Store id 918263212, on its App Store page. It launched on 2014-10-03, was written up by The Verge, TIME and TechCrunch that year, and now calls itself "the OG #1 swipe cleaner". Its US rating is 4.52 from 1,110 ratings and its UK rating 4.10 from 105 ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. Those ratings were not reset at the 3.0 relaunch, so almost all of them describe the older app.

Before any third-party app: what iPhone already gives you

It is worth knowing the free tools already on your phone, because they are the baseline any cleaner builds on top of:

• Recently Deleted (Photos → Utilities → Recently Deleted) holds anything you delete for 30 days, so deletions are recoverable, as Apple Support explains.
• Media Types albums (Screenshots, Videos, Selfies, Live Photos, Panoramas, Bursts) let you filter by type without any AI.
• Duplicates album finds exact and near-duplicate photos and offers to merge them.
• Settings → General → iPhone Storage shows what is taking up space and suggests offloading options.
• Optimize iPhone Storage keeps full-resolution originals in iCloud while smaller versions live on the device.

These are great for occasional cleanup. Where they fall short is speed: tapping Select, then each photo, then the trash, then confirming gets tedious across thousands of photos. That is the gap a swipe app fills, and the question becomes which one to trust with your library.

How Pixtide compares to Flic

Every figure for Flic comes from its App Store listing and in-app purchase list, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. Where the listing does not say something, the table says "not mentioned in the listing" rather than guessing.

Cost: 50 free swipes a day, or no limit

Flic's free tier is capped at 50 swipes a day, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. The listing offers "fifty swipes a day to try it", and the maker wrote on Product Hunt that the "Free tier is 50 swipes a day, forever". Premium removes the cap and unlocks every AI feature for $6.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $49.99 once, and new users see a founding lifetime price of $24.99 in their first 15 days. We found no free trial.

At 50 a day, a library of 10,000 photos takes 200 days to get through. Older versions capped free users at 100 a day and counted kept photos against the cap, and reviewers noticed: "Limits to swiping through 100 photos a day for free. Most people have thousands" (2 stars, 2023-09-20).

Flic's history: first in, then a long pause

Flic was one of the first swipe cleaners, and its listing says "Every app that works this way came after this one." It launched on 2014-10-03, and in 2015 version 1.7 added ads and a daily limit to an app many people had already paid for, which produced a wave of 1-star reviews. Version 2.0.3 shipped on 2019-03-22, and then there was no update for seven and a half years.

We read 653 Flic reviews on 2026-09-25: 441 date from 2014 and 2015 and only 2 from 2025 and 2026. The largest complaint group, about 141 reviews, covers crashes and the app not loading, such as "Paid for app and now it's forever stuck on 'Select a Month'." (1 star, 2020-10-25). Those reviews describe the old app.

Version 3.0.0 arrived on 2026-09-07 as a full rebuild, followed by 3.1.1 on 2026-09-24, so Flic is actively developed again. The one review since the relaunch is positive: "I love the updated app!" (5 stars, 2026-09-23).

The part that matters most: deletes don't happen until you say so

The biggest reason people hesitate with any swipe cleaner is fear of deleting something they wanted. Both Pixtide and Flic hold deletes until you approve them. Flic's listing says it deletes "in one batch you approve, and Flic checks it happened". Pixtide is built around a triple safety net:

1. Swiping only marks. A left swipe flags a photo for deletion. Nothing is removed yet.
2. A Review screen shows everything you marked. Before you commit, you see all the flagged photos and videos in one place and can rescue any of them with a tap.
3. Confirmed deletes go to Recently Deleted. Pixtide uses Apple's PhotoKit (PHAssetChangeRequest), so deletions behave exactly like the Photos app: recoverable for 30 days.

Flic deletes through the same Photos library, so a mistake in either app can be undone from Recently Deleted within 30 days by following Apple's steps for deleted photos. Pixtide also has an Undo button under the card that reaches back through the whole session; the Flic version 3 listing does not mention undo.

No AI, on purpose

Flic version 3 leans on on-device AI, and Pixtide deliberately does not. Flic queues "Likely junk" worst first, groups "Similar & blurry" shots with the sharpest one pre-picked, builds a daily "Your Best 25" list and offers "Need space?" decks for 2, 5 or 10 GB. Flic still asks you to approve every delete, and its listing says "Nothing is removed because an algorithm thought so." The AI features are part of Premium.

Pixtide has no blur detection, no duplicate detection and no auto-selecting. You make every keep or delete call yourself. The category filters (screenshots, videos, selfies, Live Photos, panoramas, favourites, bursts) simply mirror the same media-type tags iOS already uses; they are not algorithmic guesses. When a photo is a hard call, swipe down and it waits in the Decide Later queue. In Flic, the down swipe shares the photo instead.

• More devices: it also runs on Mac and Apple Vision Pro as an iPhone app, and the download is only 6.4 MB.
• Most recent update: version 3.1.1 on 2026-09-24, a week after Pixtide 1.3.0.

One honest limitation

To keep this fair: Pixtide does not detect duplicates, and Flic's AI grouping of similar shots is closer to that job. For true duplicates, Apple's built-in Duplicates album is the right tool and it is free.
