AI Cleaner Alternative: A Free Swipe Cleaner With No Ads and No AI

On this page
Pixtide is a free iPhone photo cleaner that works as an AI Cleaner alternative for people who want to decide each photo themselves: no ads, no subscription and no AI selection. AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage by GRIMLAX TRADE, S.L. (App Store id 6448330325) sells weekly plans of $6.99 to $10.99 and yearly plans of $34.99 to $39.99, checked on the US App Store on 2026-09-25. It also cleans email, contacts and calendars, which Pixtide does not.
This page is written by the Pixtide team (we make Pixtide). We name where the other app wins.
The short verdict
AI Cleaner is a broad, subscription-based storage cleaner built around one-tap AI selection, and Pixtide is a narrow, free swipe sorter with no AI at all. Many unrelated iPhone apps use the name "AI Cleaner"; this page covers only the Barcelona developer GRIMLAX TRADE's app, launched on 2023-10-30 and updated to version 6.0 on 2026-09-09. Pick AI Cleaner if you want one app to find duplicates and blurry shots, compress videos, merge contacts, remove calendar events and unsubscribe from Gmail, and a weekly or yearly plan suits you. Pick it too if your iPhone runs iOS 15, 16 or 17, or you want the app in a language other than English.
Pick Pixtide if what you want is to go through your photos and videos yourself, month by month, keeping or deleting each one, without a trial, a paywall, ads or an algorithm choosing for you. Pixtide has no paid tier, so there is nothing to unlock and nothing to cancel.

Why people look for an AI Cleaner alternative
The single largest complaint in recent AI Cleaner reviews is that the ads say the app is free. We read 910 unique US reviews on 2026-09-25, and about 86 of them made that point, more than any other theme. One reviewer wrote: "During the advertisement of this app, you say it's free about six or seven times?? Big lie it's not free." (1 star, 2026-08-23). Even a five-star reviewer asked: "Please change your commercials. This is not a free app. The download is free!!" (5 stars, 2026-08-26).
Two other groups follow. About 60 reviews object to the weekly price itself, and about 80 describe billing or refund trouble after trying to cancel; those are reviewers' accounts, which we cannot verify, so check Settings, your name, Subscriptions before and after any trial.
The ratings show the gap. The lifetime US average is 4.58 from 209,384 ratings, most likely star-only ratings, while the 500 most recent written reviews average about 3.17, with 186 one-star reviews. The last three months average 3.29 (July 3.66, August 3.27, September 2.85).
What AI Cleaner actually costs
AI Cleaner is free to download, but the full app is a weekly or yearly subscription. The US in-app purchase list, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, shows ten weekly plans from $6.99 to $10.99, several with a 3-day or 7-day free trial, a "1 Year Ultimate" plan at $34.99 and a "1 Year Extended" plan at $39.99. There is no monthly plan and no lifetime purchase in that list. Reviewers describe the common path as "3 day free trial then $9.99 charged for the week". At $9.99 a week, a year on the weekly plan would come to about $519.
The free version is limited, but the exact limit is not published. InsanelyMac's review of 2025-12-17 reported 10 photos or videos a day and 2 items a day for contacts and events; reviews mention 5 or 10. We do not quote a current figure.
Pixtide has no free tier because it has no paid tier. Our guide to which photo cleaner apps are free lists the free limits of the other popular cleaners.
The AI part, and why Pixtide has none
AI Cleaner is built around automatic selection, and Pixtide deliberately has none. AI Cleaner's own description says "Our advanced AI technology frees up gigabytes of storage in seconds" and that its comprehensive cleaning "uses all the app functions simultaneously". Duplicates and similar photos are grouped and can be deleted "with a single tap". That is fast for a roll full of identical screenshots.
The trade-off is that an algorithm decides what counts as a duplicate or a bad shot. InsanelyMac's review gave the app 2.8 out of 5 on 2025-12-17, citing "Terrible AI detection accuracy" and a 44-minute scan. About 49 of the reviews we read describe the app deleting or merging the wrong data, most often contacts or calendar entries: "it completely wiped out my calendar" (1 star, 2026-07-24). Others found the AI did less than hoped: "Still had to go through my photos and files one by one myself" (1 star, 2026-07-03).
Pixtide never scores, groups or pre-selects anything. You see each photo and decide. Our guide to a photo cleaner without AI explains why that matters for photos with personal value.
The swipe mode reviewers found hidden
AI Cleaner does have a swipe mode, called Swipe to Clean, and its listing describes it in one line: "Swipe right to keep and left to delete." That is two directions. InsanelyMac's December 2025 review called the feature "oddly hidden", reached from inside the Blurry or Screenshots categories rather than from the home screen, a dated finding that version 6.0 may have changed. Only 3 of the 910 reviews we read mention swiping at all.
The listing does not mention whether swiping is capped on the free version, whether there is an undo or a review screen before deletion, how videos play, or whether you can sort month by month. We do not claim AI Cleaner lacks any of these, only that its listing does not say. One reviewer asked for bigger previews: "Need larger pictures to be able to evaluate" (1 star, 2026-08-22).
Pixtide was built around the swipe from the start and adds a third direction. Right keeps, left marks for deletion, and down sends a photo to a Decide Later queue, so one hard call does not stall the session.
The privacy label
AI Cleaner's App Store privacy label lists Identifiers as "Data Used to Track You", checked on 2026-09-25. Its linked data covers purchase history, user and device IDs, product interaction, advertising data, usage data and diagnostics. Under data not linked to you, the label lists User Content: Photos or Videos. The privacy policy names RevenueCat, Google, Amplitude, Firebase, AppsFlyer, Meta and TikTok, and names AdMob and AppLovin MAX for ads.
GRIMLAX TRADE's own copy says "AI Cleaner does not store your personal information", and its policy describes processing on the device or in iCloud. We found nothing showing that AI Cleaner uploads photos, and we do not claim it does. The label is the developer's formal statement to Apple, which is why we quote it as written.
Pixtide's label, checked on the same day, has no tracking section. It lists only data not linked to you, from anonymous usage statistics that can be switched off in Settings. Photos never leave the phone. Our guide on whether photo cleaner apps are safe explains how to read these labels.
Where AI Cleaner wins
AI Cleaner is far bigger and far broader than Pixtide. It holds 4.58 from 209,384 US ratings and 4.49 from 15,830 UK ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, and it has been on the store since 2023. The praise in recent reviews is about results: about 77 reviewers mention storage freed, 73 speed and 69 ease of use. One reviewer found it "so easy to follow instruction even old ladies like me can follow" (5 stars, 2026-05-29), and about 26 credit it with finding duplicates they had missed.
It also does jobs Pixtide does not attempt. It finds duplicate and similar photos and videos, flags blurry shots and screenshots, compresses videos, keeps a private vault, merges contacts, removes calendar events, cleans and unsubscribes a Gmail inbox, and checks for data breaches. It supports iOS 15, so older iPhones that cannot run Pixtide can run it, it speaks 16 languages, and there is an Android version. If you want one app to tidy far more than your camera roll, AI Cleaner covers more ground.
How Pixtide works instead
Pixtide does one job: it shows you every photo and video and lets you decide, one swipe at a time. You pick a month, a year, a category (screenshots, videos, selfies, Live Photos, panoramas, favourites or bursts), your recent shots or On This Day, then swipe right to keep, left to delete or down to decide later. Nothing is scanned or scored, and there is no daily limit, trial or paywall.
Swiping only marks a photo. At the end of a session a review screen shows everything marked, so you can rescue a photo before you confirm, and the Undo button under the card steps back through the whole session. Confirmed deletions go to the iPhone's Recently Deleted album for 30 days, as Apple explains in its guide to deleting and recovering photos.
Videos play inline with sound and a scrub bar, so a long clip can be checked before it goes. Progress is saved, so a year of photos can be sorted over several evenings, and smart reminders send at most one notification a day.
Other AI Cleaner alternatives
The free replacement for AI Cleaner's duplicate finder is already on your iPhone. Apple's Photos app has a Duplicates album under Utilities, which merges exact copies with no limit and no subscription, plus Media Types albums for screenshots, videos and selfies. Apple's guide to deleting or hiding photos and videos shows how to select many at once.
Among third-party apps, Clever Cleaner: AI CleanUp App by CleverFiles has an unlimited free Swipe mode that sorts by month, and since 2026-08-17 also sells a $6.99 weekly plan and a $39.99 lifetime purchase; see the Clever Cleaner alternative page. Cleanup by Codeway is the closest match to AI Cleaner's model, with weekly plans up to $11.99 and 5 deletions a day free, covered on the Cleanup app alternative page. Cleaner Kit by BPMobile has a swipe mode that archives rather than deletes (Cleaner Kit alternative), and CleanMy®Phone by MacPaw costs $7.99 a month or $36.99 a year (CleanMy®Phone alternative), all checked on 2026-09-25.
One honest limitation
Pixtide is much narrower than AI Cleaner, and some of that is a real gap. Pixtide does not detect duplicates or similar photos, so for merging copies use Apple's Duplicates album or a duplicate finder. For burst photos, Pixtide shows and deletes only the representative photo, not every frame. It runs on iPhone only and needs iOS 18 or later, so an iPhone on iOS 15, 16 or 17 that AI Cleaner supports cannot run it. The app is in English. It does not compress videos, keep a vault, merge contacts, clean calendars or unsubscribe you from email. And Pixtide launched in 2026, so it has a small fraction of AI Cleaner's ratings.
How we compared
We compared the two apps on the US and UK App Stores on 2026-09-25. For AI Cleaner we used the App Store listing, the in-app purchase list, the App Privacy label, Apple's public lookup data for ratings, and 910 unique US reviews, of which the 500 most recent written reviews gave the recent average. We added GRIMLAX TRADE's website and privacy policy and InsanelyMac's review of 2025-12-17. Theme counts come from our own reading of those reviews and are rounded. When the listing does not mention a feature, this page says exactly that and does not treat it as missing.

Yes. AI Cleaner by GRIMLAX TRADE has a Swipe to Clean mode: "Swipe right to keep and left to delete", two directions. InsanelyMac called it "oddly hidden" behind the Blurry and Screenshots categories in December 2025. An undo, a review screen and a decide-later option are not mentioned in the listing. Pixtide is built around swiping and adds a third direction, down to decide later.
