Swipe Delete Alternative: A Free Photo Cleaner With No Ads

On this page

The best Swipe Delete alternative for most iPhone owners who dislike ads is Pixtide, a free swipe photo cleaner with no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases and no swipe limit. Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter, which search engines still call Swipe Delete: Photo Declutter, rates 4.5 from 1,007 US ratings and lists 8 ad-removal purchases from $1.99 to $39.99, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. Swipe Delete still wins on iPad, older iPhones and Android.

This page is written by the Pixtide team (we make Pixtide). We name where the other app wins.

The short answer

Pixtide is the Swipe Delete alternative to pick if the ads are the reason you are leaving. It keeps the gesture you know, right to keep and left to delete, adds a swipe down for photos you are unsure about, and has no ad breaks, no weekly plan and no account.

Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter is a capable, well-rated app, and it is the better choice in a few specific cases. If you sort photos on an iPad, if your iPhone cannot run iOS 18, or if you also want the same app on an Android phone, Swipe Delete covers you and Pixtide does not. The same goes if you like to mark favourites while you swipe or want each photo's file size in front of you.

Swipe Delete in numbers

Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter is a free, ad-supported swipe photo cleaner for iPhone and iPad, made by Gaspar Habif and sold by HAGAS LLC under the Eruka Tech brand. It launched on the App Store on 2024-02-07. The storefront title changed from "Swipe Delete: Photo Declutter" to "Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter", but the older name is still in the App Store URL and in search results; both names describe the same app.

All figures below were checked on the Swipe Delete App Store page on 2026-09-25:

  • Rating: 4.5 from 1,007 US ratings, 703 of them five stars; 4.58 from 319 ratings in the UK.
  • Price: free download, with 8 ad-removal purchases from $1.99 to $39.99.
  • Requirements: iOS 15.0 or later, iPhone and iPad, 53 MB.
  • Current version: 1.3.14, released 2026-09-24.
  • Languages: English only.

On Google Play, the Android version rates 4.2 from 3.38K reviews with 100K+ downloads, and its listing carries the "Contains ads" label.

Why people look for a Swipe Delete alternative

Ads are the main reason people search for a Swipe Delete alternative, and the reviews say so directly. Of the 30 written App Store reviews we could read across several storefronts, 13 complain about ads, including four and five star reviews.

The ads are tied to deleting, the moment you want to finish. One US reviewer wrote: "STOP GIVING AN ADD TO DELETE ONE FREAKING PHOTO" (2 stars, 2026-02-26). Another did the maths on a small cleanup: "Only took 1 photo per month and want to clean 4 months? 2 minutes to delete 4 photos" (1 star, 2024-08-31).

The developer has responded. In a reply dated 2024-07-30 they wrote: "We now show ads only when deleting more than a few photos." A real camera roll cleanup deletes far more than a few photos.

The second theme is speed: 4 reviews describe the app as slow or laggy, and 2 say deleting did not work or freed no storage. The other side, in a five star review: "for a free app and no subscription needed this app gets 5 stars" (5 stars, 2025-04-05).

The table compares Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter and Pixtide on objective facts. Swipe Delete's column comes from its App Store listing, privacy label and reviews, checked on 2026-09-25; where the listing says nothing, the cell says so rather than guessing.

What removing the ads costs

Swipe Delete's ad removal comes in 8 listed purchases, ranging from $1.99 to $39.99 on the US App Store, checked on 2026-09-25. The list includes Remove Ads Weekly at $4.99, one month at $1.99, two "all year" options at $4.99 and $9.99, three "forever" options at $9.99, $12.99 and $14.99, and Remove Ads Forever at $39.99. The listing does not say which renew automatically, and we found no free trial.

A $4.99 weekly option is the one to watch. If it renews every week, a year of it would cost several times more than any of the "forever" options on the same list, so if you do decide to pay, the one-off tiers are the better deal. One UK reviewer (2025-10-02) described the choice at the delete step as "either watch an ad, give a rating or get premium".

Pixtide has no price list: nothing to unlock, no premium tier, no in-app purchase of any kind. If avoiding subscriptions is your main filter, the free swipe photo cleaner with no subscription page compares that angle across several apps.

Tracking and the privacy label

Swipe Delete's App Store privacy label lists identifiers under "Data Used to Track You", the category Apple uses for data that follows you across other companies' apps and websites. The "Data Not Linked to You" section adds third-party advertising (user ID and device ID), analytics (device ID, product interaction and usage) and diagnostics. The app's privacy policy, published at swipedelete.app, names AdMob, Google Analytics for Firebase and Crashlytics, and carries an effective date of 2022-08-16, which is before the app launched.

That is normal for an ad-funded app, since an ad network needs an identifier, but it is worth knowing before you give a cleaner access to your whole library.

Pixtide has no ad network and no account. Photos are never uploaded; sorting, marking and deleting all happen on the phone. Anonymous usage statistics can be switched off in Settings. The Pixtide privacy policy lists exactly what is and is not collected, and are photo cleaner apps safe? explains how to read any cleaner's label.

Safety before a photo is deleted

Swipe Delete and Pixtide are equally safe at the last step, because both delete through Apple's Photos system. Apple moves deleted photos and videos to the Recently Deleted album, where they stay for 30 days before they are removed for good, as described on Apple's support page for deleting and recovering photos.

Before that, Swipe Delete added a review screen with Keeping, Deleting and All tabs in version 1.3.4 in July 2024, and it has an instant undo. Pixtide never deletes on a swipe: a left swipe only marks a photo, a review screen shows everything marked before you confirm, and any photo on it can be rescued, including one you swiped at the very start of the session.

The two differ on the middle option: Pixtide's swipe down sends a photo to a Decide Later pile. Swipe Delete's listing describes keep, delete and favourite, and does not mention a decide-later pile.

Storage only comes back once Recently Deleted is emptied. Apple's iPhone guide to deleting or hiding photos shows how, and our guide on how to empty Recently Deleted covers the common snags.

Updates and reliability

Swipe Delete went about 20 months without an update before September 2026. Version 1.3.12 was released on 2025-01-20 and version 1.3.14 followed on 2026-09-24, with the release note "Fixed issue that sometimes made Delete Photos button not work". Both of the last two updates were fixes for the Delete button.

A long gap does not mean an app is broken, and the 4.5 average is real. The reviews do show some friction. Four describe slow loading or lag, two say deleting did not work or freed no storage, and single reviews mention the app needing an internet connection after an update and completed months resetting.

Pixtide, made by an independent developer, launched in 2026; version 1.3.0 was released in September 2026. That is a shorter track record than Swipe Delete's, on the store since February 2024.

Where Swipe Delete wins

Swipe Delete wins on reach and on a few features Pixtide does not have. Here is the fair list, all checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25:

  • iPad. Swipe Delete runs on iPad; Pixtide is iPhone only.
  • Older iPhones. Swipe Delete supports iOS 15.0 or later. Pixtide needs iOS 18.0 or later, so a phone that cannot update to iOS 18 cannot run it.
  • Android. There is an Android version on Google Play with 100K+ downloads. Pixtide is iPhone only.
  • Favourites while swiping. You can favourite a photo in Swipe Delete as you sort. Pixtide has no favourite action on the card.
  • Per-photo size and metadata. Swipe Delete has a detail view with file size and metadata for each photo, which helps when you are hunting for big files.
  • Far more ratings. 1,007 US ratings at 4.5 and 319 UK ratings at 4.58 is a long, broad track record. Pixtide launched in 2026 and has a handful.

If any of those outweigh ads and tracking for you, Swipe Delete is the better fit.

Other Swipe Delete alternatives worth a look

Apple's own tools come first. The Photos app already has a Duplicates album and Media Types albums (Screenshots, Videos and others) that you can clear in bulk for free; see how to bulk delete photos on iPhone.

Other swipe cleaners, all checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25:

  • Quack: Photo Cleaning App is free, has no ads and asks only for optional tips. It rates 4.99 from 67 US ratings; its last update was 2026-05-23.
  • Photo Cleaner by Lumi Software has unlimited free swiping and a month and year overview, rates 4.79 from 4,974 US ratings, shows ads and sells Premium from $3.99 a week.
  • Swipewipe: Photo Cleaner is the category leader at 4.69 from 94,247 US ratings, with subscriptions up to $9.99 a week and a free tier that users report as capped. Our free Swipewipe alternative page covers it.

If free with no strings is your filter, our photo cleaner with no swipe limit guide and which photo cleaner apps are free go through the options app by app.

One honest limitation

Pixtide does not detect duplicates or similar photos. It shows you one photo or video at a time and you decide, so for exact copies the Duplicates album in Apple's Photos app is the right tool, and it is free. Swipe Delete's website mentions removing duplicate or blurry images, but its App Store listing describes no detection feature, so neither app is a duplicate finder.

Pixtide also shows only the representative photo of a burst, not every frame inside it, and deleting that card removes the representative only; to prune individual frames, use the Photos app for now. And as covered above, Pixtide is iPhone only and needs iOS 18.0 or later, which rules out iPads and older iPhones that Swipe Delete still supports.

How we compared

Every Swipe Delete figure on this page comes from public sources checked on 2026-09-25: the US App Store listing, including its in-app purchase list, version history and privacy label; 30 written reviews from seven storefronts; the developer's replies; the swipedelete.app website and privacy policy; and the Google Play listing. We quote reviews word for word, with their star rating and date.

Where the listing is silent, we write "not mentioned in the listing", never that the app lacks the feature. Prices, versions and ratings change, so treat every number here as a dated snapshot and check the App Store before you decide. Spot something out of date? Email hello@pixtide.com and we will add a dated correction.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Swipe Delete alternative without ads?

Pixtide is a free iPhone photo cleaner with the same swipe flow as Swipe Delete: right keeps, left deletes, and down sets a photo aside to decide later. It shows no ads at any point, has no subscription or in-app purchases, and has no swipe limit. Quack is another free, ad-free option. Swipe Delete, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, shows ads when you delete and sells ad removal from $1.99 to $39.99.

Is Swipe Delete Photo Declutter free?

Swipe & Delete Photo Declutter is free to download and its swiping has no cap, but it is paid for by ads, including ads shown when you confirm a deletion. Its App Store listing, checked on 2026-09-25, has 8 ad-removal purchases from $1.99 to $39.99, including Remove Ads Weekly at $4.99. Pixtide is free with no ads and no purchases at all.

Does Swipe Delete track you?

Its privacy policy names AdMob and Google Analytics for Firebase. Pixtide has no ad network and no account, never uploads a photo, and its anonymous usage statistics can be switched off in Settings.

Is Swipe Delete still being updated?

Yes, again. Swipe Delete version 1.3.14 arrived on 2026-09-24 and fixed the Delete Photos button. The version before it, 1.3.12, was released on 2025-01-20, so the app went about 20 months without an update. Pixtide launched in 2026 and its most recent version, 1.3.0, was released in September 2026.

Can I get photos back after deleting them with Swipe Delete or Pixtide?

Yes. Swipe Delete and Pixtide both delete through Apple's Photos system, so removed photos and videos go to the Recently Deleted album on your iPhone and stay there for 30 days. Both apps also show a review screen before deleting. Emptying Recently Deleted is what finally frees the storage, and after that the photos cannot be restored.

Clean your camera roll, your way

Pixtide makes the manual swipe-through fast. You decide every photo, nothing is deleted until you confirm, and everything stays on your device. Free, no ads, no subscription.
