Camera Roll Cleaner Apps for iPhone (2026): Which Are Free?
16 min read · By The Pixtide Team · Updated September 30, 2026
On this page
A camera roll cleaner app is an iPhone app that helps you delete unwanted photos and videos faster than the Photos grid allows. Of the 10 we compared in September 2026, only Pixtide and Reclean have no in-app purchases at all. Photo Cleaner ®, first for "camera roll cleaner" in the US and GB App Store on 2026-09-29, lets you swipe free without a limit but shows ads and sells plans from $3.99 a week.
This page is written by the Pixtide team (we make Pixtide). We name where the other app wins. Prices come from each app's in-app purchase list on the US App Store, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25 unless the row says 2026-09-29, and every rating count was read on 2026-09-29.
Quick picks by need
- Most swipe-forward paid app: Photo Cleaner ® by Lumi Software: unlimited free swiping by month, ads, Premium from $3.99 a week.

- Filing photos into albums: Slidebox.
- Email, contacts and compression: Cleanup or Cleaner Kit, both sold by the week.
What Apple's Photos app already does
Apple's Photos app has no single clean-up button, but on iOS 18 it already sorts much of a camera roll's clutter for free. Open Photos and scroll to Utilities: the Duplicates collection finds exact copies and lets you merge them, and Recently Deleted holds everything you delete for 30 days before it is erased (Apple Support: delete photos on iPhone). Under Media Types, the Screenshots, Videos, Bursts and Live Photos collections each gather one kind of clutter, and Select with a finger drag picks dozens at once (iPhone User Guide: delete or hide photos and videos). What Apple does not offer is a quick way to decide on ordinary photos one at a time: the 40 near-identical sunset shots, the blurry frames, the maybes. That is the job every app below sells, so run Apple's free passes first and let the app handle what is left. Our step-by-step guide to cleaning up photos on iPhone walks through both stages.

Photo Cleaner ®: the most swipe-forward paid app
Photo Cleaner ® by Lumi Software is the camera roll cleaner the App Store shows first: it ranked for "camera roll cleaner" in both the US and GB stores on 2026-09-29, and its subtitle reads "Swipe to Delete Camera Roll". Lumi Software B.V. is a one-person Dutch studio, and the app has 4,990 US ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29. Swiping is unlimited in the free tier and organised by month and year, with a final confirmation before anything is removed. The listing states "Contains Advertising", and Premium at $3.99 a week, $7.99 a month or $29.99 a year (checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25) removes them and unlocks duplicates, similar photos and screenshots. One reviewer: "Straight forward. It should be a default for iPhone" (5 stars, 2026-09-22). The limits: its privacy label lists location, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as used to track you, the app is English only, and neither the Photo Cleaner ® listing nor its policy says how photos are handled. Compared in Pixtide vs Photo Cleaner ®.
Swipewipe: the best-known swipe app, with caps and ads
Swipewipe: Photo Cleaner is the most recognised swipe cleaner, second for "camera roll cleaner" in the US App Store on 2026-09-29 and third in the GB store. MWM of France bought it in June 2024, and it has 94,840 US ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, the most of any swipe-first app on this page. It sorts month by month, with On This Day, a Decide Later bookmark, a final review before deletion and 12 languages. The free tier is where it loses people: MWM publishes no limit, and 2026 reviewers describe about 20 to 25 photos before an 8-hour wait, unskippable video ads since late August 2026 and, since about 2026-09-12, an ad before a deletion completes. One reviewer: "i guess we're doing unskippable gambling ads now" (2 stars, 2026-09-20). The Swipewipe listing sells weekly plans from $3.99 to $9.99 and a $29.99 year, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, and the app also ships AI photo enhancement. See the free Swipewipe alternative.
Cleanup: the biggest cleaner, with swipe in two corners
Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner by Codeway is the largest app in the category by ratings, with 725,919 US ratings checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, and it was third for "camera roll cleaner" in the US and second in GB that day. It is a storage cleaner first: duplicates with a "Best" pick marked for you, large videos, email, contacts, compression and a private vault. Its Swipe Mode is a bonus that covers only the Videos and Other categories, according to Codeway's own FAQ. The free tier is tight: September 2026 reviewers describe five deletions a day plus video ads. The Cleanup listing shows weekly plans from $5.95 to $11.99 and a $29.99 year, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. One reviewer: "Seriously? $11.99 a WEEK?!!!" (1 star, 2026-09-13). Where Cleanup wins: 18 languages, iOS 15 support, and email, contact and compression tools. Its privacy label lists purchases, identifiers and usage data as used to track you. See the Cleanup alternative.
Slidebox: best for filing photos into albums
Slidebox: Photo Cleaner App is the organiser of the group: swipe up to trash a photo, or tap an album to file it into a real iOS album as you go. Slidebox LLC in Seattle launched it in 2015, it is an Apple Editors' Choice, and it has 16,557 US ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29; it was fifth for "camera roll cleaner" in the US and fourth in GB that day. The free tier shows ads, and since about September 2025 reviewers report that only the most recent year is free. The Slidebox listing sells purchases from $1.99 a week to a $49.99 lifetime unlock, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, with no free trial. One reviewer: "Finally! Actual FILING." (5 stars, 2025-08-24). The caution is privacy: the label declares no tracking but lists Photos or Videos among collected data, and the policy says pictures may be uploaded to the company's servers. It has 15 languages and runs on iPad, Mac and Android. See the Slidebox alternative.
Cleaner Kit: an all-in-one cleaner whose swipe archives
Cleaner Kit - Clean Up Storage by BPMobile in Miami is an all-in-one cleaner with 351,077 US ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, and it was fifth for "camera roll cleaner" in the GB App Store that day. Its AI scan finds duplicates, blurry shots, screenshots and bursts for one-tap removal, and it adds email, contacts, calendar cleanup and video compression. Its swipe mode groups photos by time period: right keeps, left archives for later review. The listing says "Contains Advertising" and that the trial includes all features, "some with limited use"; InsanelyMac counted 20 files per ad in 2025. The Cleaner Kit listing shows items from $4.99 to $6.99 without their durations, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, and third-party reviews report $6.99 a week after a trial. A reviewer: "This swipe mode makes it so simple to toss the useless extras." (4 stars, 2026-02-28). Its privacy label lists six data types used to track you. More in the Cleaner Kit alternative.
Siftly: the app named Camera Roll Cleaner
Siftly: Camera Roll Cleaner by solo developer Pavel Ilin is the only app here with the search phrase in its name, and it has 1 US rating, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, after launching on 2026-01-05. Swipe right keeps and left trashes; it also groups exact and near duplicates, similar videos and large files, and holds deletions in a safe trash first. The listing promises "No bulk deletes, no surprises, no irreversible actions" and says photos stay on the device. The catch is price: the Siftly listing sells Premium at $11.99 a week, $39.99 a year or $79.99 lifetime, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, and reserves unlimited cleanup sessions and unlimited undo for it. The free allowance has no published number. Its privacy policy says it may use ads, and its label lists usage data as used to track you. It is not Sifty, a separate app by Spruzzo Labs. Where Siftly wins: duplicate grouping, 13 languages and support for iOS 16. See Siftly vs Pixtide.
Slider: free-feeling swiping, now with ads and a yearly plan
Photo & Video Cleaner: Slider by June Ninth LLC built its 11,187 US ratings (checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29) on a reputation for free swiping with no ads. Photos and videos come in one stack, with a review screen before Empty Trash, a step-back undo and sorting by size, date or random. The listing says Slider works entirely on-device. Since version 66 on 2026-07-19, the Slider listing has one purchase, Slider Premium at $19.99 a year, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, and its privacy policy names Google AdMob; reviewers say Premium removes the ads. Whether a daily swipe limit exists is unclear: one was added in June 2025 and then reversed, and recent reviews say there is none. One reviewer: "went from having no space, to over 20GB" (5 stars, 2026-09-22). Where Slider wins: iPad and Mac support, iOS 15, and adding photos to an album with a long press. Its listing does not mention month-by-month sorting. See the Slider alternative.
Clever Cleaner: best for duplicates
Clever Cleaner: AI CleanUp App by CleverFiles, the makers of Disk Drill, is the strongest pick for duplicate and similar photos, and it also has one of the best free swipe modes. It has 82,756 US ratings, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, and the listing promises "No ads, pop-ups, or other distractions". Swipe is unlimited, sorts by month with categories for videos, screenshots, Live Photos and favourites, and sends left swipes to an in-app trash you review before confirming. Since version 3.0 on 2026-08-17, the other tools (duplicates, compression, Smart Cleanup) have daily limits for new users, and the Clever Cleaner listing sells $6.99 a week with a 3-day trial or $39.99 lifetime, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. A reviewer: "Love the new upgrade to 'swipe' by month" (5 stars, 2026-09-15). Keep in mind that Smart Cleanup and Best Shot pre-select what to delete, and the privacy label lists identifiers used to track you. More in our Clever Cleaner review.
Reclean: free, with duplicates and swiping
Photo Cleanup, Delete: Reclean by Labi, LLC is the other camera roll cleaner here with no in-app purchases: the Reclean listing shows "Free" with no purchase list, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29, and describes no swipe or deletion cap. It is rated 4.91 from 544 US ratings on the same date. It began in June 2025 as a duplicate cleaner and added swiping of photos and videos in February 2026; its seven modes include Duplicates, Similar, Screenshots and Large Videos, plus video compression. Left swipes go to a removal list you review before deleting, and the listing says scanning happens on the iPhone. Its privacy label declares no tracking and fewer data types than Pixtide's. The listing carries "Contains Advertising", but reviewers say they see no ads, and a developer reply describes it as "just a link to other apps". One reviewer: "the only one that didn't have a pay wall after 3 days" (5 stars, 2026-09-01). Undo and a decide-later queue are not mentioned in its listing. See Reclean vs Pixtide.
Pixtide: free with no purchases and no cap
Pixtide is a free iPhone camera roll cleaner with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads and no swipe limit, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29. The whole app is the swipe: right keeps, left deletes, down sends a photo to a Decide Later queue. Decks come by month, year, category (screenshots, videos, selfies, Live Photos, panoramas, favourites, bursts), recent photos or On This Day, and videos play in the card with sound. Swiping only marks a photo; a review screen shows everything marked before you confirm, confirmed deletes sit in Recently Deleted for 30 days, and an Undo button works across the whole session. There is no AI, nothing is pre-selected, and no photo leaves the phone. The limits are real: Pixtide finds no duplicates (use Apple's Duplicates collection, Clever Cleaner or Reclean), shows only the representative photo of a burst, runs on iPhone only and needs iOS 18.0 or later. It launched in 2026 and has a handful of ratings, far fewer than most apps here.
How we checked
This is a listing-and-review check, not a lab test. On 2026-09-29 we searched the US and GB App Store for "camera roll cleaner" and took the apps in the top 15 with a real rating history. The US top five were Photo Cleaner ®, Swipewipe, Cleanup, a new app with no ratings called Camera Roll Cleaner: SnapWipe, and Slidebox. We added Clever Cleaner, fourth for "photo cleaner" in GB that day, and Reclean, whose listing ChatGPT cited for "best app to clean up my iPhone camera roll" on 2026-09-25. For each app we read the US listing, purchase list, advertising flag, privacy label, developer policy and recent reviews: 420 for Photo Cleaner ®, 967 for Swipewipe, 647 for Cleanup, 816 for Slidebox, 982 for Cleaner Kit, 434 for Slider, 965 for Clever Cleaner and 50 for Reclean; Siftly had none. Pixtide, listed as "Pixtide: Photo Cleaner Swipe", was 15th in the GB results for the same search and outside the US top 100.
What to look for in a camera roll cleaner
The right camera roll cleaner is the one whose free tier matches how much you have to sort. Five checks:
- The in-app purchase list. A weekly plan, such as Cleanup's or Siftly's $11.99, costs more over a year than any yearly plan on this page.
- The free-tier limit. Developers rarely publish it, so search recent reviews for "limit" or "per day".
- Swipe as the app or as a mode. In Photo Cleaner ®, Swipewipe, Slider and Pixtide the swipe is the whole app; in Cleanup it covers two categories.
- The privacy label. Seven of the ten apps list data under "Data Used to Track You"; Slidebox, Reclean and Pixtide do not, although Slidebox lists Photos or Videos as collected.
- Review before delete. Every app here deletes through Apple's photo library, so removed items sit in Recently Deleted for 30 days; what differs is whether you see the full list first.
Check the iOS minimum too: iOS 15 for Cleanup, Slidebox, Cleaner Kit and Slider, iOS 18 for Swipewipe, Reclean and Pixtide. For a longer list sorted by swipe style, see swipe to delete photos apps; for price detail on 13 apps, see which photo cleaner apps are free; for a wider roundup, the best free photo cleanup apps for iPhone.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best camera roll cleaner app for iPhone?
It depends on the job. Clever Cleaner is best for duplicates, Photo Cleaner ® by Lumi Software is the most swipe-forward paid app with unlimited free swiping and ads, and Pixtide is free with no purchases, no ads and no swipe limit. Photo Cleaner ® ranked first for "camera roll cleaner" in the US and GB App Store on 2026-09-29. Pixtide does not find duplicates.
Is there a free camera roll cleaner app with no subscription?
Yes. Of the 10 camera roll cleaners we compared, Pixtide and Reclean have no in-app purchases at all, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-29. Pixtide is a swipe cleaner with no ads and no cap; Reclean adds duplicate, screenshot and large-video tools. Clever Cleaner's Swipe mode is free and unlimited, but its other tools have daily limits and a $6.99 weekly plan, checked on 2026-09-25.
Does iPhone have a built-in camera roll cleaner?
Not as one tool, but the Photos app covers much of the job for free. On iOS 18, Utilities holds Duplicates, which merges exact copies, and Recently Deleted, which keeps deleted items for 30 days. Media Types gathers Screenshots, Videos, Bursts and Live Photos for bulk selection. What Apple lacks is a fast one-photo-at-a-time keep or delete flow, which swipe apps such as Pixtide, Photo Cleaner ® and Swipewipe add.
Which camera roll cleaner app is best for duplicates?
Clever Cleaner by CleverFiles, which detects duplicate and similar photos and also has an unlimited, ad-free Swipe mode. Since 2026-08-17 new users get daily limits on its duplicate tools, with a $6.99 weekly or $39.99 lifetime plan, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25. Reclean finds duplicates with no purchases at all, and Apple's own Duplicates collection merges exact copies free. Pixtide has no duplicate detection.
Do camera roll cleaner apps upload my photos?
Most say they do not. Reclean, Slider, Siftly and Pixtide state that photos stay on the iPhone, and CleverFiles says Clever Cleaner uploads no photos to the cloud. Slidebox is the one to read carefully: its App Store privacy label lists Photos or Videos as collected data and its policy says pictures may be uploaded, as read on 2026-09-25. Check the label before granting full library access.
Why is my iPhone storage still full after using a camera roll cleaner?
Deleted photos and videos move to the Recently Deleted album and stay there for 30 days, according to Apple Support, so the space only comes back once that album is emptied. This applies to every cleaner app, because they all delete through Apple's photo library. Open Photos, scroll to Utilities, unlock Recently Deleted and choose Delete All. Reviewers of Slider and Photo Cleaner ® describe the same surprise.
