AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage by GRIMLAX TRADE, S.L. (App Store id 6448330325) is a legitimate subscription storage cleaner that can only delete photos through Apple's Photos library, so every deleted photo waits in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Its App Store privacy label, checked on 2026-09-25, declares Identifiers used to track you, and the listing says Contains Advertising. The risks reviewers report are weekly billing and wrongly merged contacts or calendars.
This page is written by the Pixtide team (we make a free swipe photo cleaner). We report the label, prices and reviews as we read them, with dates, and say where AI Cleaner does more than we do.

Which AI Cleaner this page covers
Several unrelated iPhone apps are called AI Cleaner, so the developer name and the id 6448330325 are the only reliable way to identify the GRIMLAX app. An App Store search for "ai cleaner" on 2026-09-29 returned at least four other apps with nearly the same name: "AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage+" by BEGAMOB GLOBAL LIMITED (id 1641040766, 9,034 US ratings), "Cleaner AI: Photo Cleanup" by Codespace Dijital Hizmetler (id 6502456017, 44,757 US ratings), "AI Cleaner: Pro Photos" by StarApps Limited (id 6468660242, 586 US ratings) and "AI Cleaner : Free Up Storage" by TASKORY LIMITED (id 6760445954, 151 US ratings). Those are different companies with their own prices and privacy labels, and nothing on this page describes them. The GRIMLAX app's website is aicleaner.app, and its Android version is listed on Google Play as "AI Cleaner - Storage Cleaner". Many Reddit threads and reviews that mention "AI Cleaner" are about one of the other apps, so check the name of the developer before trusting a warning or a recommendation.
What happens to the photos AI Cleaner deletes
AI Cleaner cannot erase a photo permanently on its own, because iOS sends every app's photo deletions through Apple's Photos library. When you confirm a deletion, iOS asks for its own permission, then moves the photos and videos to the Recently Deleted album, where they stay for 30 days before iOS removes them for good (Apple Support: delete photos on iPhone). To restore them, open the Photos app, go to Utilities, then Recently Deleted, unlock it with Face ID or your passcode, select the items and tap Recover (Apple's guide to deleting and recovering photos). The catch is outside the camera roll. AI Cleaner also merges contacts and removes calendar events, and those are not covered by the photo album's 30-day window. About 49 of the 910 US reviews we read on 2026-09-25 describe wrong data deleted or merged, mostly contacts and calendars. If you plan to use those tools, make sure contacts and calendars sync to iCloud first, so there is a copy to go back to.
What the privacy label declares
AI Cleaner's App Store privacy label, checked on 2026-09-25, declares Identifiers under "Data Used to Track You". Under "Data Linked to You" it lists purchase history, user and device IDs, product interaction, advertising data, other usage data, diagnostics and other data, used for the developer's marketing, analytics and app functionality. Under "Data Not Linked to You" it lists User Content: Photos or Videos. The privacy policy, read on 2026-09-29, says the app needs access to your camera roll, contacts and calendar to find repeated items and that "all information is exclusively located in your device and/or iCloud account". The same policy names RevenueCat, Google, Amplitude, Firebase, AppsFlyer, Meta and TikTok among its partners, and AdMob and AppLovin MAX as ad networks. Both the label and the policy are written by the developer; Apple does not audit them. Tracking in Apple's sense means linking app data with other companies' data for advertising, which fits an app that shows ads. You can refuse it: when the app asks to track, tap Ask App Not to Track.
The free tier, the trials and the weekly prices
AI Cleaner is free to download, but the full app is a weekly or yearly subscription. The US in-app purchase list, checked on the App Store on 2026-09-25, holds ten weekly plans named Lite, Standard and Elite, priced from $6.99 to $10.99 a week, several with a 3-day or 7-day free trial, plus "1 Year Ultimate" at $34.99 and "1 Year Extended" at $39.99. The list has neither a monthly plan nor a one-time lifetime purchase. Kept for a full year, the weekly plans would cost about $363 at $6.99 and about $571 at $10.99, so the yearly plans are far cheaper if you intend to stay. The free version is limited, but GRIMLAX does not publish the limit. InsanelyMac's review of 2025-12-17 reported "10 photos or videos per day" and 2 items a day for contacts and events; reviewers mention 5 or 10. The most common complaint we found, in about 86 of 910 reviews, is that the TV and social ads call the app free. For how other cleaners handle this, see which photo cleaner apps are free.
How to cancel an AI Cleaner subscription
AI Cleaner subscriptions are sold through the App Store, so Apple, not GRIMLAX, handles cancelling and refunds. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap AI Cleaner and tap Cancel Subscription; if there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red, the plan is already cancelled (Apple Support: cancel a subscription). Three habits prevent most of the trouble in reviews:
- Cancel a 3-day or 7-day trial at least 24 hours before it ends, because App Store subscriptions renew automatically unless they are turned off before then.
- Do not rely on deleting the app. Removing AI Cleaner from the phone does not stop the subscription, which belongs to your Apple Account.
- Cancel in Settings rather than inside the app. One reviewer wrote: "If you go to the app to contact them, they automatically sign you up for another free trial" (1 star, 2026-03-21).
For a charge you did not expect, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com; Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours (Apple Support: request a refund).
What reviewers say
AI Cleaner's lifetime US rating is high, but its recent written reviews are much lower. The lifetime average was 4.58 from 209,384 US ratings on 2026-09-25, most likely driven by star-only ratings. The 500 most recent written US reviews average about 3.17, with 186 one-star reviews, and the monthly averages fell from 3.66 in July 2026 to 3.27 in August and 2.85 in September. Of the 910 reviews we read, the praise is about results: about 77 mention storage freed, 73 speed and 69 ease of use. One reviewer who came in doubtful ended with "Now my phone has so much storage!" (5 stars, 2026-06-10). The complaints are about money. About 80 reviews describe charges after trying to cancel or a refused refund, and about 60 object to the weekly price: "getting charged $9.99 A WEEK ... to the tune of over $700" (1 star, 2026-06-07). These are individual accounts we cannot verify. About 60 reviews say a tool, usually email or contacts, did not work.
How it compares
AI Cleaner does more than a swipe sorter, and for some people that breadth is the point. It finds duplicate and similar photos and videos, flags blurry shots, compresses videos, keeps a vault, merges contacts, cleans calendars and unsubscribes a Gmail inbox, runs on iOS 15 and on Apple silicon Macs, and speaks 16 languages. Pixtide, which we make, does none of those extra jobs: it is a free swipe cleaner for iPhone on iOS 18 or later, in English, with no ads, no subscription and no tracking section on its label, and it launched in 2026 with far fewer ratings. For duplicates, Apple's own Duplicates album in the Photos app is free. The full side-by-side, including the Swipe to Clean mode, is on the AI Cleaner alternative page; the wider picture of cleaner apps and your data is in are photo cleaner apps safe, and recovery steps for any app are in recover photos deleted by an app.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AI Cleaner app safe to use?
AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage by GRIMLAX TRADE, S.L. deletes photos through Apple's Photos library, so they stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Its App Store privacy label, checked on 2026-09-25, declares Identifiers used to track you, and the listing is marked Contains Advertising. Reviewers mostly report billing problems and wrongly merged contacts or calendars, not photo loss. Back up contacts and calendars before using those tools.
Is AI Cleaner app free?
Only the download is free. AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage lists ten weekly plans from $6.99 to $10.99, several with a 3-day or 7-day trial, plus yearly plans at $34.99 and $39.99, checked on the US App Store on 2026-09-25. The free version is capped; InsanelyMac reported 10 photos or videos a day in December 2025, and the current limit is not published.
Is AI Cleaner legit?
Yes. AI Cleaner: Clean Up Storage (id 6448330325) is published by GRIMLAX TRADE, S.L., a Barcelona company, launched on 2023-10-30 and reached version 6.0 on 2026-09-09. How do I cancel my AI Cleaner subscription?
AI Cleaner subscriptions are billed by Apple, so you cancel them in iPhone Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then AI Cleaner, then Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel the plan. To avoid a charge after a 3-day or 7-day trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Refund requests go to reportaproblem.apple.com, not to the developer.
Can I get back photos that AI Cleaner deleted?
Yes, for 30 days. AI Cleaner, like every iPhone app, deletes photos and videos through Apple's Photos library, so they move to the Recently Deleted album. In the Photos app, open Utilities, then Recently Deleted, unlock it, select the items and tap Recover. Contacts and calendar events that AI Cleaner merges or removes are not in that album.
